How to Transfer My Domain Registration Away from GoDaddy

Before attempting to transfer a domain away from GoDaddy, you must complete the following steps.

Important
  • There is a 60 day period after registering a domain name during which you will be unable to transfer domain registration. This is not a joudiSoft specific rule, but rather a rule implemented by ICANN, the organization that governs domain registrations. For more information, please review ICANN's Policy on Transfer of Registrations between Registrars.
  • When the Registrant WHOIS email info on a domain is updated an email is sent to both the existing email and the new email address for the Registrant contact. This is due to ICANN's new Change of Registrant Policy.

Step 1: Update Contact Information for Domain

The contact information for your domain needs to be up-to-date so that the EPP/Authorization Code can be emailed to you. To update your contact information:

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. At the top of the page, hover over the Hi, Customer (your name) drop-down menu and click Visit My Account.
  3. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  4. Place a check mark in the box next to the domain you wish to transfer.
  5. In the Domains menu bar, select Contacts > Contact Information.
  6. When the new window pops up, review and/or update the contact information for accuracy. There are four tabs to review:
    • Registrant
    • Administrative
    • Technical
    • Billing
  7. Click OK when your changes are complete.

Step 2: Remove Privacy Protection from the Domain

If privacy protection is enabled on the domain name when the transfer request is initiated, the domain transfer will automatically fail. All WHOIS information must be publically visible in order for the transfer to go through successfully.

Step 3: Unlock the Domain

If the domain name is locked, the transfer request will automatically fail as the domain must be unlocked prior to initiating the transfer. To unlock the domain:

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. At the top of the page, hover over the Hi, Customer (your name) drop-down menu and click Visit My Account.
  3. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  4. Place a check mark in the box of the domain you wish to unlock.
  5. In the Domains menu bar, click the Lock icon.
  6. In the pop-up, click Off.
  7. Click Save.

Step 4: Request EPP/Authorization Code

Most domain registrars require an EPP/authorization code in order to transfer a domain name. This provides an extra layer of security and protects against unauthorized transfers. To request an EPP/authorization code:

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. At the top of the page, hover over the Hi, Customer (your name) drop-down menu and click Visit My Account.
  3. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  4. Click on the domain name that you wish to get the code for.
  5. In the Settings tab, navigate to the Authorization Code section.
  6. Click the Email my code link.
  7. In the pop-up, click Send.

Step 5: Submit Domain Name Transfer Request to joudiSoft

Once all of the above steps have been completed, you should be ready to transfer your domain name to joudiSoft.

  1. Go to the joudiSoft domain transfer form at https://joudisoft.com/cart.php?a=add&domain=transfer
  2. Enter your domain name in the Find a Domainfield, and select the appropriate extension (.com, .net, etc.) from the drop-down menu.
If your domain name extension ends in something other than .com, .net, .org, .info or .biz, you will not be able to use the transfer form to process your request. You will need to contact our Billing department via with your domain name and authorization code so we can arrange payment.

Please refer to the following article for a list of domains that can be transferred to joudiSoft along with their respective fees:

  3. Click Transfer.
  4. Review the steps on the page to ensure the domain name is unlocked and privacy protection is disabled.
  5. Click Express Checkout.
  6. Enter the EPP/authorization code you received from GoDaddy.
  7. Check the box if you agree to the Terms of Registration, and enter your contact information exactly as it appears at GoDaddy.
  8. Click Complete Order.
  9. Enter your credit card information and click Purchase.
If you cannot pay with credit card, this step will not work for you. Instead, please contact us via phone or email with your domain name and authorization code so we can arrange payment.

Step 6: Approve the Transfer of the Domain Name to joudiSoft

After a few hours, you should receive an email from GoDaddy confirming that your domain transfer request was received. This is a typical security measure. You will need to approve the transfer in your GoDaddy control panel; otherwise, your transfer may take up to 7 days to complete.

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account.
  2. At the top of the page, hover over the Hi, Customer (your name) drop-down menu and click Visit My Account.
  3. Next to Domains, click Launch.
  4. From the top, green menu bar, click Domains > Transfers.
  5. Select the check box next to your transferred domain, and click the Accept/Decline button in the top toolbar.
  6. Choose Accept, and click OK.

You will receive an email from joudiSoft once the transfer is complete. If you have not heard from joudiSoft after seven (7) days, you may contact us to inquire about your transfer status.
